  • If you are wanting to progress from hiking and excited about moving on steeper terrain the grade 1 scrambling is the perfect introduction. From the classics such as Crib Goch and Tryfan north ridge to lesser known gems, let us guide you up some superb and adventurous scrambles.

Grade 1: The use of hands and feet is needed. Exposed terrain with the difficulties often avoidable. A rope is seldom needed.

  • Already experienced with grade 1 scrambles or have experience with climbing then a grade 2 scramble may be your thing. Although not as many scrambles in this grade exist there are still some brilliant routes to be done.

Grade 2: Scrambles will usually include sections where a nervous scrambler would want a rope to protect them, and the person in front (the leader) must feel confident moving over exposed yet relatively easy climbing terrain.

  • This is where the line becomes blurred. Is it climbing or is it scrambling? Grade 3 scrambles can be and are serious if not given the proper respect. In Eryri (Snowdonia) we have some of the finest grade 3 scrambles in the UK particularly in the Ogwen Valley. Participants should be well experienced with moving on steep terrain with either a lot of scrambling under the belt, climbing experience or a high level of fitness and a good head for exposure.

Grade 3: Proper climbing is involved. Hands, feet, knees, shoulders, head, you name it you might need it in a G3 scramble. The use of a rope is expected for sections and exposed and steep terrain is unavoidable.
